Chill Into Wellness

My name is Megan Vanvolkinburg and I am one of the founders of Cryo Works, along with my family. I first stumbled on research for Cryo therapy when I was looking to remedy a hip I injured while training for a half marathon. When discussing the therapy with my family we all decided to go up to Buffalo Cryo to try the treatment. I, along with my mother, sister and brother in law made the 3 hour trip for 3 minutes of sub zero temperatures. The difference after treatment was so remarkable that we had to bring this therapy back to the Binghamton area.

Cryotherapy History

The term Cryotherapy comes from the Greek words “Kryos” which means Cold and “Therapeia” meaning Cure. The practice of Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) was developed in 1978 by Dr. Toshiro Yamauchi, who treated patients for pain and inflammation associated with Rheumatoid Arthritis in Japan. He found that rapid short-term freezing of the skin’s surface led to immediate release of endorphins and is more effective than gradual cooling in an ice bath. Further research conducted over the last two decades in Europe has established WBC as a powerful treatment for inflammatory disorders, chronic pain, acute injuries, weight loss, and to improve healing rates. Whole Body Cryotherapy is also used to improve athletic performance and recovery times from workouts and surgery, to reclaim youth and treat a variety of chronic physical conditions including Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Tendonitis, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Psoriasis, Autoimmune Disorders, Anxiety and Depression and Cellulite.
